FALCONRY DAYS
Blackwater Falconry also offers a full program of seminars, Hawking days and Displays. These can be planned for individuals and any small or large party sizes. These events are aimed at introducing individuals to the delights of Falconry and trains people in being responsible Falcon owners and flyers. Such events are also extremely popular for corporate team building type days. Any person interested in this type of event should visit our main website at www.BlackwaterFalconry.org
The Hawks We Fly (for Bird Control)
The hawks we employ are fully trained and require constant exercise and 'flying'. We use a range of birds as listed below to tackle different pest bird species in different situations.
Lanner Falcon (falco biarmicus)
The smaller cousin to the peregrine falcon, an African falcon, but a much more versatile all rounder a true longwing but can be flown in slightly more enclosed areas than a peregrine easier to handle and a more reliable bird control falcon.
Merlin (falco columbarius)
The merlin is one of the smallest of falcons, a true longwing but a very efficient bird scarer particularly so against sparrows and starlings known as a pigeon hawk but really too small to cope efficiently with pigeons, a bird of the UK found in upland areas on moorland.
Peregrine Falcon (falco peregrinus)
The peregrine falcon is known as a longwing, only to be flown in large open areas, can be flown at rooks, crows, seagulls needs an experienced falconer to handle easily lost and like all our falcons carries a radio transmitter when flown, but a very efficient bird control specialist.
Sparrowhawk (accipiter nisus)
The sparrowhawk is known as a shortwing, short rounded wings gives this bird tremendous acceleration in short dashes, the natural predator in the UK of sparrows and starlings, but needs an experienced hand to fly as they are difficult and tricky to maintain.
Harris Hawk (parabuteo unicinctus)
The harris hawk a bird of the united states is the most versatile hawk used in bird control will take a variety of prey from sparrows to rabbits, used as a bird scarer they are most successful at feral pigeons and can be flown indoors and outdoors, their obedience, intelligence and power of foot makes them the first choice for feral pigeons in an urban environment.
